Welcome!

The primary mission of the Office for Geospatial Information Science and Technology (GIST) is to facilitate and promote  interdisciplinary research and graduate education at Texas A&M University in all areas related to GIST, including (but not limited to) geographic information systems/science (GIS), remote sensing (RS), global positioning systems (GPS), location-based services (LBS), and geospatial visualization (G-Vis).

Texas A&M has over 35 GIST faculty members spread over 15 different departments/programs in seven different colleges.  GIST researchers are developing cutting-edge technologies related to spatial data acquisition, representation, analysis, modeling, visualization and animation.  They are also developing innovative applications of GIST for sustainable development, homeland security, and public health.

The GIST office sponsors distinguished lecture series each semester, as well as the annual Texas A&M University geospatial research symposium series.  The office also serves as a liaison between Texas A&M geospatial faculty and the U.S. University Consortium for Geographic Information Science (UCGIS) for external funding opportunities at the international and national levels.
